Heirloom Highlight: Backyard BBQ Invitations

It was a pretty big deal last year when my husband and I, after living nearly an hour away for four years, moved back to our hometown area. Being ten minutes from friends and family was something worth celebrating, so we decided to invite all of our loved ones to our new home for an old fashioned BBQ.

I knew I wanted to create a really bold, graphic invitation to send out - something that felt quinquennially American, and would set the stage for a laid-back, comfortable BBQ. Since I normally follow such traditional layouts when designing wedding invitations, I took advantage of the opportunity to create an out-of-the-box invitation that didn't follow any traditional design rules. I used the shape of a charcoal grill (my personal favorite - I mean, what's better than a crispy hotdog off of a smokey-joe grill?!), mixed in FOUR different typefaces, and added a classic red and white gingham backer. The invitations were printed on bright white, double thick felt paper, and tucked into kraft envelopes.

This invitation is, hands down, my personal favorite to date. It was so fun to break from my usual design flow! I love it too much to keep to myself, so it is now available for instant purchase (1-2-3 easy!) through the SJ Zazzle Shop, right here. It's the perfect invitation for your next backyard BBQ, no matter what the occasion!
